When I view this post on the web, most of it starts hidden, with just the text "vpns, rant" visible. I can click "show more" to see the rest.

Viewing the same post on AndStatus, I just see:

vpns, rant
(Sensitive)

and after some exploration I can find no way to view the rest, except by selecting "Open in browser".

@falsifian There is a "Navigation drawer" on the left side of the timeline screen. It has the "Show sensitive content" checkbox.

Thanks for pointing it out @yvolk.

Personally I'd prefer a "show" button like on the web UI, but I'm not about to spend time implementing that so I won't complain if this issue is closed.

Arguments for a "show" button right on the post:

  • Dumb users like me wouldn't have trouble finding it.
  • I'm afraid I'll forget to turn off the "Show sensitive content" when using the app in public.
  • I usually don't want to see NSFW things, and if I do, it's a one-off.
  • Mastodon users tend to (ab)use the feature to split posts into summary+content, like in the post I linked. That doesn't work very well with a global show/hide button.

@falsifian Thank you for the insights, very helpful.

I think I will leave existing "Show sensitive content" checkbox for global settings, but in a case the checkbox is unchecked, each "Sensitive" content will have its individual "Show" button.
