WiFi SSID with underscore in name

I am not able to add my device to my SSID with an underscore '_' in the name. It seems to work ok and an SSID with no underscore, but that is not my IOT SSID. I don't want to create a new SSID and repair all of my other devices, can this be fixed so underscore is allowed?
