I'm writing an application that reads a binary file into a byte[], with the intent to read and parse the elements in the file. When I open the file in ImHex and select a byte, it would be wonderful if there is a line in the Data Inspector or at the bottom of the Hex Editor that tells me the integer index of that byte in the file, so I could directly relate it to the index of the same value in the byte[] in my app. I see there is a hex readout of the selection index, but it would be great if there was also an integer readout. Thanks!
Just some food for thought in case anyone is interested...
I'm almost done with a C# application that makes decoding binary files so much easier, and it might be something that could be included in ImHex if anyone cares. As with ImHex I select a range of bytes and it tells me the different values the selection could represent. But when I select a range and see that it represents a good, real value I can then save that info in a text file. I have a button called "Save Selection" and also a dropdown where I can specify what data type the selection represents. And also a text box where I can add some text to describe the data. So when I hit "Save Selection" it grabs the starting index of the selection, and the length of the selection, as well as the data type and descriptive text, and appends that data as CSV into a file. So then I step thru the file identifying each group of data and I automatically have a record of what all the data represents. That way when I write some software that needs to decode those types of binary files, I just load this CSV file and use it as a guide for extracting and parsing.

Wonderful software, thanks so much!
