This is sort of in a limbo mode right now. Currently MRTK 2.7.2 supports OpenVR, OpenXR, and Oculus. They are supported but have various limits with Unity (different versions) and specifically MRTK. Ideally we want everything to be OpenXR but currently MRTK does not support this for Oculus devices - only UWP and HoloLens equipment. MRTK is also going through a big architectural change v3.0 will more than likely be pure OpenXR and I think it will get rid of a lot of the issues associated with Unity and other engines. I have a test project I'm going to work on with OpenVR and build some tools using MRTK with OpenVR but will have to convert them in the future once MRTK is updated.

What a bit of a pain - currently using MRTK 2.7.2 via Unity 2021.2.3f1 with OpenXR settings and Windows Mixed Reality SDK. This gives me as a developer the freedom to plug in whatever HMD that is on the PC side and I can rather quickly now get up and start testing/building. This might not be a full solution for deployment via Android. Given that this is now mostly on OpenXR it should, big air quotes, work going forward once MRTK releases their big update in 3.0.
