I think your concept is very interesting. I personally do not like popular things very often especially when it comes to music but I do think in the world where everything is so data-driven, the entertainment industry can definitely use some help. Here are some of the changes I think you can implement to make it better.

  1. The overall layout is mostly well, but it feels like there is just too much white space. Maybe try enlarging the sections to occupy more. Also, putting the plots on cards can make it visually more pleasing.
  2. The vertical bar on the right indicating the mean key metrics is a good idea, but as of right now there is no way to check which numbers this mean is based on. From my use I noticed that this mean can change when either the start or the end year is changed, making it really confusing as to what the range the mean is. Is it based on the songs in the start year, or the end year, or both?
  3. The popularity by speechiness is fine. But I tried to play around different widgets on the board or checked README and couldn't find anything that allows me to change speechiness to another metric. I think other properties of a song can also be very important, so it would be helpful to give the user an option to see the plot for other metrics too. Moreover, consider making it artist-dependent: different artists are known for excelling at different types of music, and therefore for some maybe certain properties lead to popularity, whereas for others it can lead to people disliking, i.e., an interaction between the artists and the properties.
  4. I understand this data is not the latest, but for the sake of your motivation, let us assume it is. Trend is something that can change drastically even in the span of a very short time, so to fully capitalize it you wanna make sure you are on the latest hottest thing. So, consider including some cards for the latest statistics for some key metrics if your goal is to help record companies create popular songs.

Overall I think it is a pretty cool concept. I can't wait to listen to the most popular songs created by companies based on the dashboard and absolutely hate them.
