Slogan

As NewPipe Extractor already supports multiple services like YouTube and SoundCloud and we already discuss about a new design for multiple services we should also think of a new slogan for NewPipe.

At the moment we use different three slogans:

Lightweight YouTube frontend

https://f-droid.org/packages/org.schabi.newpipe

A free lightweight Youtube frontend for Android.

https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe

the lightweight YouTube experience for Android

https://newpipe.schabi.org

Description

With the integration of SoundCloud we also need a new app description. This is the current description:

NewPipe does not use any Google framework libraries, or the YouTube API. It only parses the website in order to gain the information it needs. Therefore this app can be used on devices without Google Services installed. Also, you don't need a YouTube account to use NewPipe, and it's FLOSS.

I thought of something like this:

NewPipe is a frontend for video and audio streaming services like YouTube and SoundCloud.

The app does not use any Google framework libraries, or the YouTube API (@wb9688 I'm not sure but I think you used the SoundCloud API in the Extractor. is that correct? We should add a sentence about SoundCloud here.). It only parses the website in order to gain the information it needs. Therefore NewPipe can be used on devices without Google Services installed. No accounts are needed to use the app and for these reasons NewPipe guarantees high privacy standards. Furthermore, NewPipe is FLOSS.

Instead of writing "Soundcloud" I would say "YouTube and other services." or "YouTube etc."
However I think we should wait for it to put online until the fronted relay support multiple services. Otherwise the description was wrong.

These are slogan ideas. They should be vague enough that people are curious to read on (which will then be explanation enough).

The differential: article adjective noun:
The elegant solution.
A modern stunner.
A sleek marvel.
A stylish substitute.

Personal benefits:
Your media experiences reimagined/elevated/enhanced/etc
You deserve better. You deserve a better XYZ.
Enjoy shared media without sharing your data.

Simple:
Youtube (or XYZ) freed.

Possible description (if average android user is the audience):
NewPipe is the smarter solution for many streaming services or otherwise intrusive native apps. Current supported services include blah blah blah and new ones are constantly being worked on. NewPipe is optimized as a standalone frontend; it parses targeted websites in order to provide the best user experience without compromising user privacy or data. This app works even without a website user account. NewPipe values integrity over monetary gains (or whatever) and does not require third-party blah blah blah, Google servives, Google framework libraries, blah blah blah. To learn more about this and how FLOSSY this thing is, check out www.website.com.

NOTE:
This isn't a big deal but keep the same voice in the feature descriptions of the actual website. Use active voice, cut extraneous words out, etc. These are only suggestions so ignore or use them, it doesn't matter to me.

Example:
OLD: The simple reasons why you will like the app.
NEW: Top reasons users love NewPipe

This suggests a large user base, that there are other unspecified reasons, and that NewPipe is lovable. Maybe you'll get more converts (if that's your goal). Also the image this section is on makes legibility really crappy. Darken the white collage, use red text for the feature headers.

OLD: Lightweight: Saving memory and battery life.
NEW: Lightweight: Saves memory and battery life
or "Saves your phone's memory and battery life" if you want a friendlier tone/to match other descriptions

OLD: Background Player: Use other apps with no hassle while it plays your favourite songs.
New: Background Player: Easily play your favourite songs while you use other apps

I took @bagelcake's description and added some more details. Are you guys happy with this? Please let me know so we can update our F-Droid page soon.

NewPipe is the smarter solution for many streaming services or otherwise intrusive native apps. We currently support YouTube and new ones are constantly being worked on. NewPipe is optimized as a standalone frontend; it parses targeted websites in order to provide the best user experience without compromising user privacy or data. This app works even without a website user account. NewPipe values integrity over monetary gains and does not require third-party proprietary libraries like Google services, Google framework libraries including the YouTube API. To learn more about this and how FLOSSY this app is, check out newpipe.schabi.org.
Features our users love:

  • Popup player
  • Background player (save data volume and listen to audio/music only)
  • Audio and video downloader
  • Local subscriptions
  • History
  • 4K video support
and many more. To bring NewPipe forward we'd love to see you helping. You can contribute to NewPipe in lots of different ways: translate, code, design, ...

it parses targeted websites

Not essentially true, when we have multi services we might also take the api of those. Take media.ccc as an example.
