Custom app support

I am trying to connect contentful with shopify using their app (https://www.contentful.com/marketplace/app/shopify/) but I was not able to create private apps so I created a custom one and I am getting a 401 error because of the way the access token is sent.

So I downloaded the app's source code and tried to add the X-Shopify-Access-Token header but noticed that their app is using this package.

Since we cannot create privates anymore, is there a way to use this with the custom apps?
