How to check private.dat for correctness

If I understand correctly, private.dat contains the private and public keys, which must be consistent with each other.
I tried changing the contents of the file, obviously breaking consistency, but the utility keyinfo (from i2pd-tools) still displays information as if everything is fine with the file. According to the code, the method FromBuffer of PrivateKeys class is used to download the file. Does this class have the ability to check key consistency? Are there any щерук utilities to check keys?
