Episode download statistics function #675
Comments
This is not something that Podcast Generator itself could properly deliver nor will any statistics be accurate given that listeners through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc. might not even be downloading episodes from your site (plenty of services will now download the episode and cache it themselves, and serve that copy to listeners). If you want statistics, your best bet is to sign up as a publisher with the different podcast apps / services so you can get what statistics they will provide for your show, and process the access log for your web server (which is usually not in files accessible from your Podcast Generator instance, unless you're completely managing the server yourself). As an aside, rather than look for advertisers, I encourage you to look into value for value. It's a way to let your listeners support your show(s) directly and builds engagement between your show and the listening community. |
While I agree with you about the value for value comment, and everything you have said is technically correct, there are podcast hosting providers that a user can use - while it would defeat the use of this app as you would not be hosting it yourself. Services like Omny Studio do host podcast and can insert programmatic advertisements on services like Spotify. I personally try and recommend users use services like Overcast as they don't cache podcasts and that would allow a service like chartable to track your podcast movement. Also it's up to the podcaster to recommend which platform that they send users too, if you want to know your podcast is not being cached and your income limited then, I recommend that send users to your own website or a 3rd party app you know that does not cache podcasts. Believe it or not this will matter in the future as companies like Spotify clamp down on content and on allowing 3rd party advertisers to bypass their Spotify studio ad service. Remember Spotify collected a large amount of money for advertising revenue. |
