The snap is Version 5.3.4-1 . The printer is an Epson RX420. I know that Gutenprint supports it.

Adding it in the web interface has Select Device showing

EPSON Stylus Photo RX420 (USB)
ENVY4500 (DNSSD)
ENVY4500 series (SNMP)
ENVY4500 (DNS-SD Network Printer)
EPSON Stylus Photo RX420 (USB)

I will not comment on the ENVY entries but will assume a user would ignore them because she knows what printer she wants to install.

That still leaves two identical entries.

gutenprint-printer-app devices has

cups:usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%20RX420?serial=LJ4O40407152301540&interface=1
cups:dnssd://ENVY4500._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/?uuid=1c852a4d-b800-1f08-abcd-308d99fafac2
cups:socket://192.168.7.235:9100
dnssd://ENVY4500._pdl-datastream._tcp.local/
usb://EPSON/Stylus%20Photo%20RX420?serial=LJ4O40407152301540

I am aware of the significance of cups:usb://... .

May I suggest that the first entry has something like (Recommended) added to it.
