The question is so how reliable those version sources are. I found repology often out-dated. It has a Linux distributions like ubuntu/debian that uses incompatible version schemes to upstream. We currently only have upstream sources where we can be sure it is the right up-to-date version. It might be a nice source to adapt in future so - to avoid having to come up with scraping rules by ourself. I will keep it in mind.
There is a possible upstream lib candidate at https://github.com/lilydjwg/nvchecker
Let me know what you think (of using that instead of internal version checker implementations)?
Suggestion for the "related work section": https://github.com/berberman/nvfetcher (uses
nvchecker
)Edit: It looks like
