(Thanks to who prefers to be referred as "Einsamer Wolf")
One new possible game mode would feature the game ship as you already know it.
But players or player against computer enemies would try to shoot each others down.
Also, multiplayer is a must for this one at some point.

One idea the person mentioned also had: Make this possibly an intermission / bonus game in the main game against real players, and most of the time it is not important who will win.....

I think this might be implemented very minimal.
