Re-use SWC's revised setup at https://carpentries.github.io/workshop-template/#shell #214
Comments
Hi @jas58, to clarify this issue, are you wondering why the Library Carpentry lesson isn't using the same setup steps as SWC? If so, this is definitely something we can look into and update in our lesson. |
Hi @kaitlinnewson I'll try to return to what I was thinking last year. As I review the two versions of setup and episode one, I think I see the SWC version links to extensive installation instructions on a separate site. Where there's also a video to watch of the sequence to compare as I go. I'm not an expert at Bash or Git in the Library Carpentry context, so I struggle to understand some of the choices that make LC different from SWC. Does Sarah Stevens' video introduce elements that would not work for LC? |
Thanks @jas58, that helps clarify! I'll take a closer look at what SWC is doing and see if it makes sense to point to those setup steps instead. |
I learned Git through Software Carpentries, https://carpentries.github.io/workshop-template/#shell.
As an anxious learner, the depth of guidance is much more reassuring.
Is there any reason (for example changing a default setting as SWC occasionally does) to rely on Git Bash in Windows' defaults?
If this has been discussed before, please guide me to the comments and I can close.
