Detecting Lie-fi

Any plans on detecting "Lie-Fi" connection? (e.g when your phone indicates 3G but actually the connection is so slow it's same as offline).
Something that could work is to periodically check for checks.xhr.url and trigger the offline state if the request takes too long to resolve...?
