I might just host an instance on Digital Ocean. Put it behind a password wall before you can access the website. That way we can test on a production like environment.

An update on this: we have an acceptance domain. It is currently not really suited for actual experimenting. I think for future editions it would be valuable to have a test/dev domain. However, strato seems to be very limiting in things we can do. Might be worth it to just change over to another hosting environment.
