Can you guys Bump the version to ubuntu 16.04 with SSL enabled by default and no LVM so the disk can be easily expanded with resize2fs? Also the docs recommend not using the OVA's for production, can we make these good enough so we can drop that recommendation?

Hello,

I'm just going through old tickets. Wow, this one is almost 4 years old! Are you still out there?

  • Ubuntu 16.04: Since this issue was opened, we have updated the image to 18.04. We also have a separate issue for moving it to 20.04 (Update OVA and AMI images to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS #242).
  • SSL: We would be happy to accept a PR on this.
  • Removing LVM: I have not used LVM much personally. Just googling around, it looks like you can still resize the disk with LVM. It's just more commands. How often are you resizing the disk?
  • OVA's used in production: I know this has been requested before, but I don't see it changing. The OVA isn't designed for production use. Our production architecture recommendation is described here: https://docs.graylog.org/en/4.0/pages/architecture.html#bigger-production-setup

This is multiple issues in one ticket, so it's hard to address them all. I think it might be a good idea to open new tickets for each of these requests.
