Feature description
Hello.
Avro Phonetic is an open source (GPL 3.0) keyboard which runs on the local device to convert Bengali Phonetic (using the QWERTY layout) to Bengali. It is one of the most popular keyboards in Bangladesh and West Bengal (India). It runs completely locally and hence is totally private.
Why do you want this feature?
Currently, Fossify Keyboard has a Bengali keyboard derived from the AOSP keyboard. However, that keyboard is well known in Bangladesh to be clunky and is disliked by most people. Hence, implementing Phonetic typing capability for Bengali will both increase the accessibility to Bengali speakers and also implementing it via Avro will be relatively simple. This will also secure Fossify Keyboard for the future when further implementation of Phonetic keyboards may be desired.
Additional information
Currently Omicronlab (the original developers of the Avro keyboard) host a website within which you can preview how the Phonetic Keyboard works. The link is provided here. Hope this helps!
