After following the install steps my site was still showing the old, expired Apache Friends cert that came with lampp. To update that, I had to go into /opt/lampp/etc/extra/httpd-ssl.conf and update the SSLCertificateFile and SSLCertificateKeyFile settings. Then I restarted the server and the browser and everything worked.
