What it does

It changes the normal effect of night vision running out from flickering to gently fading out.

Why should it be in the modpack

  • As a person that is sensitive to light flashes of any kind, this mod helps make Minecraft more comfortable and helps contributing to the modpack's goal of increasing accessibility.
  • There are servers that use night vision nearly running out as a 'Halloween effect', which might be uncomfortable for some users.
  • It doesn't change the game noticeably for anyone that isn't looking for it.
  • Still feels vanilla.
  • Wouldn't be a noticeable mod to leave out when updating the modpack to newer versions when the mod hasn't yet updated to said version.
  • Has a config option to disable itself that also integrates with mod menu.

Why shouldn't it be in the modpack

  • It hasn't been updated to 1.20.2 yet.
  • The developer hasn't committed to the repository for a year.
  • A relatively small feature for adding a whole new mod.

Additional details

Not being allowed to distribute via CurseForge is likely a mistake, as the mod is open source, MIT-licensed and it is available on Modrinth.

If it doesn't update it would likely be easy to find a replacement or for someone to fork it and update it themselves.

Doesn't Minecraft already have an accessibility setting for this?

Not for night vision flickering to my knowledge, it does for darkness pulsing and thunder.

For the record, this is another mod of the same purpose that supports 1.20.2: https://modrinth.com/mod/flickerfix
I didn't create another issue for it, as it is likely that "No Night Vision Flickering" will eventually get updated.

Might be worth considering, though I'd expect Mojang to fix it first by adding an option.

Just tested it myself, 1.20.1 version seems to work just fine on 1.20.2 with sodium + indium and also when added to the latest version of Fabulously Optimized (5.5.0 beta.2). Also, FlickerFix is a Forge mod, No Night Vision Flashing is the most popular alternative on Fabric.

NNVF updated recently and now supports 1.20.4. I have been shipping it in a FO fork for two months with no reported issues.
