Requirements:

  • OpenBSD iso support out of the box (or with minimal configurations)
  • 1GB RAM
  • Static IP + reverse dns configuration
  • Allows opening email ports
  • AES-NI (for hardware accelerated cryptography)

NOTE: Also add any known limitations and cons to each network, if it has been generally experienced by users.

Excision Mail uses: https://vultr.com

Vultr https://vultr.com

NOTE: vultr has a rule that you need an account for 30 days before they open port 25 for your servers.

I'm going to start adding those ones from caesonia (redundancy is always helpful)

RamNode https://www.ramnode.com

Cons: I've had a lot of problems getting networking to work.
ipv6 has been inoperable and ipv4 requires manual intervention.

@epsilon-0 It should be noted, DigitalOcean requires you to upload a custom image to your image library to be able to use OpenBSD there. They only officially support FreeBSD.

You can get some unofficial images here or create your own in qcow2 format.

Personally I did it manually following this guide.

It is worth noting that Vultr and DigitalOcean block the port 25 by default (account). According to the docs one can ask the support to unblock it (i'm in the process currently)

I'm running my install there without any issues, only had to upload the install ISO. VNC access per web interface to machine makes the install pretty easy.

Linode
https://linode.com
Note: You have to install OpenBSD via the minoroot.img or standard .img files. A guide to get it going is available here: https://www.linode.com/community/questions/10329/openbsd-on-linode
Also, Linode blocks ports 25, 465 and 587; you have to open a ticket to get them to unblock it.
