Hello.
First time I hear of something like that. What seems weird to me is that a database write error would absolutely trigger an error message of some sort being shown to the user.

Quick questions:

  • What is your operating system? Did you recently update Windows?
  • Where is your user directory located? (if you don't know, start Houhou, go to the settings tab, and it's on the bottom of the "Application" category page)

Now can you check the following:

  • Make sure Houhou is not running (make sure it's not still running in the tray).
  • Go to your user directory and check the "Date modified" of your "SrsDatabase.sqlite" file in there.
  • Launch Houhou and add some word or kanji to your SRS list.
  • Close Houhou (again, make sure it's not still running in the tray).
  • In your user directory, did the "Date modified" for "SrsDatabase.sqlite" change? Or did it stay the same?

Can you check if the file is in read-only mode? (right click the file, select properties and you should see a checkbox for that).
Again, in any case, I find it really weird that you see no error on your end, even though the file cannot be written. The timing of your last Windows Update isn't very reassuring either...

May I see your log file? It should be located in "C:\Users<YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Houhou SRS\Logs". Please bear in mind that it may contain some (superficial) personal information like your user directory path, possibly the installation path, some settings if you changed them, and the likes.
You can send it by mail if you'd like. There is a contact button on the home page of the application that should open an email.

Lastly, I dont know why but I couldn't find the log.. When I checked my user folder, I clicked the Houhou folder but all I saw was the radicals, kanji, and the database file.

You are not looking in the right place. Did you check that path:
"C:\Users<YOUR_WINDOWS_USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Houhou SRS\Logs"
AppData is a hidden directory so you will either have to change your Windows settings to show hidden files and directories, or type it in the address bar in Windows Explorer.
