This bug has been around for a long time. I know John Matthews & BBC Engineering Support have encountered it. I'm surprised we've never logged it here before.

Justine Robilliard reports:

I know this is an old bug, and I am infested with the bug, to the point it renders Final Cut virtually useless.. Below is the screen grab of the problem, when I installed FCP, it was fine, then one day I opened FCP to start to change the commands to ones I would like to set, and wow, it was in German…

So I started to wonder, what happened.. So I did a factory reset of the 2020 M1 MacBook Air, 8GB RAM, standard as standard can be of a 2020 M1 MacBook Air..

Re-formatted the SSD, re-installed Sonoma, FCP, and it is still in German..

What I have discovered is this..Why does COMMAND + switch between 2 layouts? If I hold COMMAND + [2 keys] on the the screen the layout in Command Editor changes, and the [ ] keys appear, but if I release the keys, the layout reverts to German.

I know this is a bug of some age now, 2015 from my research, from what I understand is that if I plug in the Apple USB external keyboard, then the English correct Command Editor layout appears, unplug the keyboard, it disappears/reverts back to German

It seems to me that there is a bug that tells FCP my hardware keyboard, the one on the MacBook Air, FCP thinks it is German, even though it is not German, but English…

I have sent a number of feedbacks to Apple including the screen grabs and a “please” can you fix, and well nothing, for me now a couple months, and counting.. I just cannot understand how a bug can last 7 years…

Ok, so to sum up, the Mac was bug free, there was an update, it changed the language, I was not aware of this, then in the last couple months, I have been using FCP more as we are about to change from FCP7 to FCP, the crew use FCP [x] to edit, and they have questions, so I need to be prepared, so started using FCP, that is when I came across the bug, did the format SSD, re-install…Bug

This is with using iCloud and not, I am wondering if and this is going to sound insane, that the version of FCP I use to re-install is hosted in Germany, and the wrong version is active, a developer version…

Pressing Command and + [plus] changes the keyboard from default German to English, this is not permanent, but plug in an external keyboard it is.. I think a line of code is causing conflict..
