Is it possible to make a midi note sustain, or act as a key press and hold? Midi functionality only appears to work as a single key press ( note on or off ). I would like to use this app with Fusion 360, for hotkeys to pan, zoom, and orbit - this requires mapping midi keys to mouse click and hold as well as key press and hold. Is there any way to do this?

Hi, there's no provision in the Midi protocol to provide a "native sustain", which is actually in the hands of the synth/software, which would use a message to do whatever needed.

You may try using the "AfterTouch" message, if your Midi keyboard provides it or the "Sustenuto" message which is actually a sustain function but is only accessible from a pedal (which actually is a simple on/off actuator) and that's hooked up to the keyboard if the keyboard has the dedicated inout jack...

Apologies for the delayed reply... the way to handle this would be to have seperate press and release actions. We do have this for modifier keys, but not individual keys. However you could add your own as Lua Snippets.

Is it possible to use knobs of a Midi surface to control Contrast, Pivot, Mid detail,... in Davinci Resolve?
I guess not, as there are no keyboard shortcuts for those :-(

There are so many devices that can be called a "Midi surface" that it's hard to say no, BUT :
=> a Midi surface is so named just BECAUSE it supports the Midi protocol, partially or totally
=> lots of controllers do way more than only Midi, i.e. : Steamdeck or Loupedeck, but also most controllers dedicated to some softwares like BlackMagic units... or all the devices supporting Resolve.

I'm not familiar with Da Vinci lineup, I'm 99% focused on audio stuff like ProTools, Ableton Live and Reaper...
When I want to deal with picts or videos, it's at a basic level I can do in the Adobe Suite... so my knowledge is becoming weak to your questions now ;-)

I have an Arturia beatstep in addition to a Tangent ripple.
The idea would be to use the knobs like in the video you kindly suggested, around 9:20.
Unfortunately Commandpost don't seem able to emulate mouse drag, just clics.
And ideally, the use of the knob would trigger not only the mouse clic and drag, but also place the mouse at the correct location, and then replace it where it was. I'll check if there is a Hammerspoon script than can help me that.

Apologies for the delayed reply... You would have to use a Lua Snippet to "code" in emulated mouse drags, etc. However, for something like this, you're much better off using a more friendly tool like Keyboard Maestro. All your Keyboard Maestro macros will also appear in CommandPost's Search Console.

Currently we don't really have any built-in actions for DaVinci Resolve - CommandPost is mainly focussed on Final Cut Pro. We do one day hope to add deeper DaVinci Resolve support... but no ETA on that currently. DaVinci Resolve development moves so quickly, with constant updates, it's a tricky beast to keep up with compared to Final Cut Pro.

As you suggested, I tried Keyboard Maestro. It's kind of working but it's not responsive enough unfortunately.

I hope one day BMD gives direct access to those functions.

I was peaking at this MIDI stuff this morning, on latest build. I see that it detects my device/hardware and registers when I click listen for a knob/etc.

But then when i select a command, nothing happens. Would I have to map to a certain app, or is another issue?

I found a free plugin for Lightroom, and that works great, for mapping to sliders/etc in the UI.

Yes, you can have a mapping per application. You can also "Ignore" applications, so make sure you're not ignoring the application you want to trigger actions from.

Oh wait. If i set Bank to 2, then it works. Maybe since I use Davinci Resolve Speed Editor, that is taking over Bank 1?

"Unlisted & Ignored Applications" is used when there's no other "Application" set up - it's basically the "default" layout.

For example, if you an application set up for TextEdit - when the TextEdit application is running and active, then it'll use the TextEdit layout. However, if you tick "Ignore" - then CommandPost will ignore that TextEdit application and use the "Unlisted & Ignored Applications" layout.

You also do need to make sure you're on the right bank. Banks are independent between devices, so you have a MIDI device on Bank 2, a Loupedeck CT on bank 3, a Razer device on bank 4, etc.
