As a random individual who heard on the grapevine that there was a Bend community project, I'd like to know what the project is about and who is involved. Maybe this could go at the top of the fold on the README.

I'd write it, but I don't know too much about it!

I am not a Bend resident but a long long time ago I lived nearby and definitely having a more detailed idea of what the direction of this project is would be immensely helpful :)
