Pug layout with include doesn't render on change

What am I doing wrong? 🙏

    h1 base.pug: if i change it everything will render as expected including saved changes in sub-template.pug
    include sub-template
    | !{content}

src/_includes/sub-template.pug

h1 sub-template: If i change it nothing happens

I run eleventy like this:
npx @11ty/eleventy --input=./src --serve
without any config file.

Am I missing something?
